What to Expect on Your Acupuncture Facial Rejuvenation Visit

Before your first facial experience, you might have some questions and concerns. Whether you’ve already booked a facial or plan to book one soon, we’re here to help you have a better idea of what to expect during a facial. You may be wondering what happens during a facial — if a facial hurts or if you can wear makeup to a facial. These are all great questions to get the answers to before you step into the treatment room for your first facial.

Keep these tips in mind when planning and prepping your first facial treatment

You can expect to be in the office for around 90 minutes the day of your facial. Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Please do not wear makeup to your facial visits so we may ensure optimal results. After the session, your skin may develop redness  resembling a slight sun burn, so plan your day accordingly. Here are some other ideal suggestions to help prepare you for your visit:

  • If you are sensitive to skin care products you may want to limit starting a new routine beforehand as well as minimizing your current products to prepare the skin for the change it will undergo
  • Decrease sun exposure beforehand to minimize the risk of dehydration and sensitivity. Also, limit the sun after your session since the serum ingredients, although all natural, can make the skin reactive.

Potential side effects of a facial include redness and irritation, breakouts, dryness, and occasional bruising

  • Mild irritation can occur from active ingredients such as vitamin C or AHA/BHA acids.
  • You may notice breakouts after a facial since they are part of the body’s natural detoxification process, as a result of  your skin and lymphatic system get deeply stimulated during the facial.
  • Dryness can occur due to changes in your skin-care routine. To help with this, use a gentle, non-irritating, fragrance-free moisturizer twice a day before and your new serums daily afterwards.
  • There are many small capillaries in the face, and needling can occasionally produce minimal bruising. This is not common and resolves quickly.
