Sports Injury Treatment and Recovery in Mooresville, NC
Sports injuries range from the acute, a sprained ankle, a pulled muscle, a sudden impact to a joint, to the chronic and cumulative, the knee that has been complaining for months, the shoulder that has been tight since last season, the low back that flares after every long run. Both types respond well to what we do, and we see athletes of every level from recreational to competitive in our Mooresville office. The goal is always the same: get back to what you do as quickly and as completely as possible.
The picture we build
Sports injuries are often diagnosed and treated in isolation, the knee, the shoulder, the ankle, without looking at why that structure was vulnerable in the first place. Mechanics matter. A runner with recurrent hamstring strains usually has a hip or pelvis issue driving the strain. A cyclist with knee pain usually has a bike fit problem or hip weakness that is altering how the knee loads. A pitcher with shoulder pain usually has a thoracic spine restriction changing the shoulder mechanics. We look at the injury and the context it happened in, because treating only the injury without addressing what set it up leads to reinjury.
Treatment
Chiropractic care. We address the injured joint and the mechanics above and below it. For acute injuries, the priority is reducing inflammation, restoring motion, and building a return-to-activity plan. For chronic overuse injuries, the priority is identifying the mechanical fault that is driving the tissue failure and correcting it before the injury recurs.
Dry needling. Muscle strains, tendinopathies, and overuse injuries all produce significant trigger point activity that impairs healing and function. Dry needling releases these and stimulates a healing response in chronically injured tissue. Dry needling is particularly effective for tendinopathy, particularly in stubborn cases that have not responded to rest and physical therapy.
Acupuncture. For acute injuries with significant inflammation, and for the nervous system and recovery support side of sports performance, acupuncture reduces inflammation, accelerates tissue healing, and helps the nervous system recover from the stress of training and competition. Many athletes use it as a regular maintenance and recovery tool alongside their training. We offer a significant discount when you combine services.
Common questions
How soon after an injury should I come in?
As soon as possible. Early treatment reduces inflammation more effectively, prevents the protective guarding patterns that develop around acute injuries from becoming chronic, and gets you back to activity faster. Waiting to see if it resolves on its own is usually the slower path.
Can I keep training while I am being treated?
Often yes, with modification. We give you specific guidance on what to continue, what to reduce, and what to avoid, rather than a blanket recommendation to rest. Complete rest is rarely the fastest path back to full activity.
Do you work with youth athletes?
Yes. Growing athletes have specific injury patterns, particularly at growth plates and developing joints, that we account for in treatment. We see athletes of all ages.
