Intersegmental Traction
Intersegmental traction uses a motorized table with rollers that move slowly along the length of the spine. You lie on your back while the rollers travel beneath you, gently stretching each spinal segment in turn.
The motion restores passive movement to spinal joints that have stiffened, improves circulation to the discs, and relaxes the muscles running alongside the spine. Most people find it genuinely comfortable, somewhere between a light massage and a gentle stretch. Sessions run about ten to fifteen minutes.
We use it to loosen the spine before an adjustment, which lets the adjustment go further with less resistance, and to help tight muscles settle afterward. For a stiff back that has been locked up for a while, it often makes the first adjustment easier and the results more lasting.
