Functional Medicine
A Root Cause Approach to Lasting Health
This approach is designed to restore balance in the body, improve resilience, and support long-term wellness. The process is thorough, evidence-based, and individualized to each patient’s needs.
Our Process
The first step is a detailed discussion of your current concerns, past medical experiences, lifestyle habits, environment, and family health patterns. This information provides context and reveals patterns that may not have been considered before.
All major body systems — including digestive, immune, hormonal, cardiovascular, and nervous systems — are evaluated for how they are functioning individually and together. This integrated assessment can highlight areas of imbalance.
When appropriate, specialized testing is used to assess factors such as nutrient levels, hormone function, inflammation markers, detoxification capacity, and gut health. These tests provide insights beyond what is typically available through standard panels.
The results of the history, systems analysis, and laboratory testing are combined to create a structured plan. This may include dietary changes, targeted supplementation, lifestyle modifications, and therapies that integrate with chiropractic and acupuncture care.
Progress is monitored over time, and plans are adjusted based on results and feedback. The aim is steady improvement and long-term sustainability.
A Different Approach to Testing
Most people who come to us for functional medicine have already had bloodwork done and been told their results are normal. The issue is usually not that the test was wrong. It is that the test was not designed to catch what we are looking for.
Standard lab ranges identify disease. A result inside the range means you probably do not have the condition being screened for. It does not mean your body is working well, or that nothing is heading in the wrong direction. There is a significant gap between those two things, and standard panels do not measure much inside that gap.
We use testing that looks at how your body is actually functioning. Fasting insulin alongside fasting glucose, because insulin resistance develops years before glucose moves out of range and that window is where lifestyle intervention works best. A full thyroid panel instead of TSH alone, because TSH tells you what the pituitary is asking for, not what the thyroid is delivering or whether the immune system is attacking it. Cortisol measured across the day, not at a single morning point, because the rhythm is what matters clinically. Hormone testing that shows how hormones are being produced and cleared, not just their level in circulation at one moment.
The reason this matters is timing. By the time standard testing flags a problem, medication is often the indicated next step and that is appropriate at that stage. But before that point, there is usually a window where the right intervention is nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress management, and targeted nutritional support. Those tools work best when the problem is identified early. We use testing that identifies it early.

Addressing the Causes, Not Just the Symptoms
Functional Medicine provides a deeper evaluation of how body systems are working together, or sometimes working against each other. By examining nutrition, lifestyle, stress, environment, and genetics, we can uncover the reasons behind chronic or complex conditions. This approach does more than offer short-term relief, it helps identify and correct the root problems, giving people a path toward meaningful improvement and lasting change.
